California Clean Energy Bill: SB 100

California Clean Energy Act SB 100, just passed by the California State Senate. This place California in the right path of controlling its own Energy in the nearest future. This was an aggressive move in order to make California’s energy needs to be covered 100% with renewable power by year 2045.

The bill passed with a 25 to 13 count for SB 100, by passing this bill California will expand the State RPS. California is expecting to have 50% of its energy come from renewable sources by year 2026.

“When it comes to our clean air and climate change, we are not backing down,” said Senate Leader Kevin De León. “Today, we passed the most ambitious target in the world to expand clean energy and put Californians to work. Now more than ever, it is critical that we double down on climate leadership as we learn that the President intends to withdraw from the Paris agreement. Regardless of what Washington does, California will show the way forward. We are sending a clear message to the rest of the world that no president, no matter how desperately the try to ignore reality, can halt our progress.”

San Francisco Senator Scott Wiener sponsored bills SB 71 and SB 700 which are an important part of SB 100, allowing access to solar energy for more California residents. Similar to mandates in Santa Monica & San Francisco, SB 71 authorizes the California Energy Commission to require a rooftop solar & solar thermal systems on all new buildings during construction. Right now the Law only requires 15% of new buildings to be solar ready.

SB 700 is designed to set 30% of the programs funds to provide rebates to low income communities in California. Also to establish job training and workforce programs for solar markets. So heads up for California State Senate for looking forward to have power independence and become the first 100% green energy state in America.
